FAQ

WHAT IS DAWN AT KAER SEREN?

Have you always dreamed of jumping into the pages of a book and becoming a protagonist of a fantasy world? Going on adventures and living through exciting moments you'd never encounter in real life?
You'll find it here! During this game you'll become a citizen of The Continent. You can choose to hunt monsters, plot Redanian demise, seduce a mage for your own gain, join the Nilfgaardian military drill, etc.

DO I NEED TO KNOW THE WITCHER LORE?

It will be useful to have basic knowledge of the Witcher universe.

If you want to get better acquainted with the lore, we suggest you watch The Witcher Netflix series, read Andrzej Sapkowski's books, play the video games or read the Witcher Fandom Wiki.

HOW LONG DOES THE GAME LAST? WHEN DO I NEED TO ARRIVE? WHEN DO WE LEAVE?

The game itself will start on Thursday evening and last until Saturday night. Once the game is over there will be an emotional debrief and an after party.
Players should arrive on Thursday afternoon, before 15:00.

Workshops will start on Thursday at 16:00.

Players need to leave on Sunday morning before 11:00.

DO I NEED TO WRITE MY OWN CHARACTER?

No, all characters are pre-written by the team. You will receive your character description about 5 months before the game.
Character descriptions are a guide to help you immers yourself into the role you've been given. They will contain background information, secrets, goals, relationships etc.
You are welcome to adjust the character, add to it, or take away from it. Once you've received the character, it's yours to inhabit.

HOW DOES THE CASTING PROCESS WORK?

A casting form will be sent out to all ticket holders after the game is sold out, or 1 month after the tickets have been launched, depending on what comes first. In this casting form, you will be able to tell us about the themes, professions, nationalities, etc. you’d like to play on, as well as whom you’d prefer to play with, what your knowledge of the Witcher lore is like, and what themes and players you’d like to avoid. We will also ask you what character gender you’d like to play.

Characters will be written after the casting process is complete, meaning that every character will be tailored to your preferences as best as we can. We can’t promise everyone will get their number 1 profession, nation, etc., as this also depends on other players’ choices (we can’t have 2 kings of Redania, for example), but we will do our best to give you a character we think you’ll enjoy.

This means that we need time to write your characters once we’ve received everyone’s reply in the casting form. You will first receive a short character teaser for feedback, to make sure we are on the right track. We will ask for your patience and try to make sure everyone has their characters about 4 months before the event.

WHAT IS INCLUDED IN THE TICKET?

Your ticket includes a bed in one of the youth hostel rooms, and food from Thursday afternoon snacks, to Sunday morning breakfast.

You will also receive a unique character to play, and our photographers will endeavour to capture the game and characters so you'll have a souvenir once you get home.
Your ticket does NOT include travel.

Your ticket does NOT include a costume.

Your ticket does NOT include a towel and sleeping bag.

WILL THERE BE GROUP TRANSPORT?

Yes, we will organize a bus from Basel airport.

IS THE GAME ACCESSIBLE FOR PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES?

This depends on your disability. The castle is old and has a LOT of stairs. The terrain around the castle can be rough. The corridors and terrain might not always be well lit. If you are in doubt, please reach out to us for more details: charmedplumeproductions@gmail.com

WHAT ABOUT SPECIAL DIETARY NEEDS?

Before the game we will send out a personal information form to fill out by all players and NPCs. In this form we will ask you about any allergies, dietary needs and medical conditions.

We will try our best to accomodate for any allegies and dietary needs during meals.

WILL THERE BE A RE-RUN?

There may be a re-run if the game is a success and if there's enough interest.

WHAT ABOUT ADULT THEMES AND TRIGGERS?

The Witcher universe can be cruel, sexist and racist (between humans and non-humans).

However, discrimination based on real-life attributes (gender, race, sex, sexual orientation, physical appearance, belief, etc.) may result in the offending party being banned from the game. The same goes for out-of-game physical or emotional violence.

Before the game there will be an emotional and physical wellbeing briefing for all players. You can read more about safety mechanics and our code of conduct in the Player Guide.

Themes you will NOT find during the game: Animal cruelty, sexual violence, sexual work, LGBTQ phobia., ageism
Themes that you might encounter during the game: racism (between humans and non-humans), classicism, sexism, death (sometimes unavoidable), romance, torture, violence, war, sickness, emotional manipulation, drugs (fisstech), alcohol.

CAN MY CHARACTER DIE?

Your character is allowed to die if it fits the character’s story and if it makes sense to you as a player. The game designers will never force a character death on you, character death is always entirely the player’s choice.

If you wish for your character to die, we ask that you coordinate this with the design team. We also recommend you only let your character die on the last day of the game as to not miss out on too much game-play. If you wish to rejoin the game after your character has died, you can take on a new role.

Certain NPCs may die during the game. Please be aware that these deaths might be unavoidable and may be key elements to the game plot.
